On Friday, 7 August 2026, the Intern Doctors Association of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) announced a boycott of an intern doctor accused of homosexuality. The announcement was made in a written statement signed by the association’s President, Dr. Md. Sakib Hossain, and General Secretary, Dr. Zaman Md. Nurshad. The doctor was named in reports as Mubashir Ahmed Muhakkik, known as Dr. Shuvro. According to the reports, he is a 62nd-batch MBBS student of Chattogram Medical College who completed his MBBS with the 63rd batch, and he was undertaking his internship at CMCH at the time. The reports state that his family home is in Narayanganj.
The allegation about his sexual orientation was reportedly first posted on Facebook on Friday afternoon by a person claiming to be a “senior worker” of Islami Chhatra Shibir. The association’s statement followed. It condemned and protested the doctor’s alleged conduct, which it described as a “despicable act” (হীন কাজ), and announced that he would be boycotted from the internship. The statement said that similar incidents had recently surfaced at Chattogram Medical College, embarrassing students and doctors, and attributed their growth to a lack of exemplary punishment. It asked the Director of CMCH and the Principal of Chattogram Medical College to impose exemplary punishment to prevent recurrence.
The reports also recalled that on 10 February 2023, four students were detained in a medical college hostel on suspicion of Shibir links and tortured by members of Chhatra League. The doctor was one of the four, and two of the students were in intensive care for a long time. A Shibir leader, speaking anonymously, said the doctor was never a Shibir member and had been beaten as a roommate during the 2023 attack, which delayed the four students’ MBBS completion. The leader said the doctor’s ties with the affected Shibir workers grew afterwards but declined over the past two years.
A screenshot of a WhatsApp message from the doctor inviting others to a “Quran session” was circulated as part of the “senior Shibir worker” claim. The Shibir leader said the programme did not belong to Shibir or any other political or Islamic organisation and was the invitation of a student from a senior batch. The leader said necessary steps would be taken after discussion.
