Radicalised right-wing Islamist preacher Dr. Sayyid Muhammad Enayetullah Abbasi Wa Siddiqui has claimed that Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon phoned him and said he had meant to say “third gender” but mistakenly said “transgender”. He made the remarks at a waz mahfil (religious gathering) in Rajoir, Madaripur, on Friday, 30 October.
Abbasi said the minister had visited a university two days earlier and spoken in favour of transgender people. In protest, he had said at a gathering the day before that they did not expect this from the Education Minister. The minister then telephoned him while he was at the Rajoir gathering. According to Abbasi, the minister has also deleted what he had written from his page.
After relaying the minister’s admission, Abbasi maintained his position on transgender people. In his speech he called the issue a “foreign conspiracy” and urged listeners to remain vocal against it.
Abbasi said in his speech:
“I thank the Education Minister that he phoned immediately after my protest, deleted his statement, and said that the university authorities keep saying transgender instead of third gender. It happened as a slip of the tongue on his part. I hope Allah forgives him. We also have no more grievance in our hearts, but all ministries, including the Education Minister, must be careful. Agents of infidels and polytheists are lurking at every level of the country. If the government is not aware, there will be a conflict with the ulema, pirs, and Muslims. To prevent this conflict, the government must be extremely cautious.”
“Our Education Minister, Mr. Ehsanul Haque Milon, went to a private university two days ago. There he said some things in favour of transgender people. So at yesterday’s mahfil I protested that we did not expect this from the Education Minister. Today, while I was at the Rajoir mahfil, he phoned me. He called me and said, ‘Huzur, I meant to say third gender but mistakenly said transgender’. And he has deleted from his page what he had written. We hope he has understood the mistake. May Allah forgive him.”
“And we all must be careful ahead. The transgender issue is the most heinous foreign conspiracy. Men, women—and another is hijra. We have no objection regarding hijras. Those who are called hijras, if they are Muslim, have the right to go to the mosque and pray; there is no obstacle. But the transgender matter is gender replacement. That is also of two kinds: one is through a physical operation, cutting and trimming some organs, a boy becomes a girl, a girl becomes a boy. The other is without any operation, conceptually. That is, a boy will say—‘No, I am not a boy, I am a girl’. Naudhubillah! And a girl will say—‘I am not a girl, what am I? A boy’.”
“Now in America there is a billionaire, a Jew, whose name is George Soros. He is spending billions upon billions of dollars to establish this void creed, doctrine, homosexuality—this devilry and villainy. I will name it: he has given billions and millions of dollars to BRAC University in Bangladesh to establish this transgender matter. We agitated in Hasina’s time, we agitated in Yunus’s time, we have not died yet, we are alive, we are vocal. This transgender [agenda] will not be allowed to be established in Bangladesh with state patronage.”
“Let me say one thing: if the state recognises transgender people, now this scoundrel boy who is saying—‘I am not a boy, I am a girl’—what gender will he state? Girl. The state is bound to accept him as a girl; what is he actually? A boy. And the girl who will say—‘I am a boy’—what will be on her ID card or form? Boy. What is she actually? A girl. Which will the state accept? Boy.”
“So what will the problem be? The boy who is calling himself a girl, if he is admitted to Dhaka University, he is a boy but has proved himself a girl; so will his place be in the boys’ hall or the girls’ hall? The girls’ hall. So if this boy enters among these hundreds of girls, what is he actually? A boy, saying girl—will an untoward incident happen or not? It will. And the girl who says—‘what am I? A boy’—where will her place be? In the boys’ hall; so what will be the condition of one girl among so many boys? This is an international debauchery, villainy, homosexuality. We must be vocal against this.”
