About Us
LGBTIQ Phobia Monitoring BD
An independent, research- and evidence-based platform documenting anti-LGBTIQ+, anti-gender and anti-feminist human rights abuses, and far-right extremist activity, in Bangladesh.
Who we are
A voice for those who are silenced
LGBTIQ Phobia Monitoring BD is Bangladesh’s first independent, research- and evidence-based media platform dedicated to exposing anti-LGBTIQ+, anti-gender, anti-feminist and human-rights abuses, as well as far-right extremist activities. It was established by a social-justice foundation in partnership with human-rights researchers, journalists and community advocates.
In an environment where powerful interests often suppress critical stories, we stand as both watchdog and champion, committed to defending dignity and safeguarding the rights of Bangladesh’s most vulnerable communities.
Our vision
A future where every person in Bangladesh, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation or background, lives free from fear, discrimination and violence.
Our mission
To systematically monitor, verify and publicly document anti-LGBTIQ+, anti-gender, anti-feminist and related human-rights violations in Bangladesh, so that policymakers, journalists, civil-society organisations and the public have accurate, actionable evidence to demand accountability and protect vulnerable communities.
What we do
From scattered news to a verified, open record
Monitor
We scan authorised media outlets, government releases and civil-society reports for incidents of abuse.
Verify
With regional representatives, our editors confirm critical incidents through field research, interviews and documentation.
Archive
Every verified incident enters an open-access database: a permanent record that cannot be erased.
Analyse
We turn the data into briefs, visualisations and analytical reports that reveal trends and emerging threats.
Publish
We share articles and special reports through our platform, and timely updates with partner networks.
Advocate
We highlight documented abuses and systemic failures to support advocacy, grassroots movements and policy reform.
Why we do it
Because entrenched prejudice and powerful interests often bury the truth, marginalised communities face violence and discrimination in silence. By documenting each case, from hate speech and discriminatory policies to physical attacks, we bring hidden injustices into the open and create a record that cannot be erased. Verified evidence gives policymakers, journalists and activists the clarity they need to confront abuse and push for reform.
Our challenges
What makes this work hard
Security
Our teams face surveillance, intimidation and cyber-attacks. Protecting sources and data is a constant priority.
Resources
Comprehensive coverage and an open archive need stable funding and logistical support.
Technology
A secure, scalable database and website need continuous investment in infrastructure and cybersecurity.
Knowledge gaps
Information from rural and marginalised communities is scarce, so some violations may go unrecorded.
Skilled people
Recruiting, training and retaining field researchers, analysts and journalists is an ongoing challenge.
