Two teenage girls were arrested on charges of homosexuality in Daulatdia, Goaland Upazila, Rajbari district, according to a press release issued by Goalandghat Police Station on Thursday afternoon.
Police sources confirmed that acting on the instructions of Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Rakibul Islam, a joint police team led by SI (Retd) Md. Faruk Hossain (BPM) conducted an operation at the residence of accused No. 3 Julhas Mollah, located in Nuru Mandal Para under Goalandghat Police Station. The operation took place at 5:10 pm on July 23, during which the two girls were detained on suspicion of engaging in homosexual acts.
Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Rakibul Islam stated that a First Information Report (FIR No. 35, dated 23/07/2025) has been filed against the two girls under Sections 377 and 114 of the Penal Code, 1860, at Goalandghat Police Station.
This incident is another example of the continued criminalization and police action against alleged same-sex relationships in Bangladesh, where Section 377 of the colonial-era Penal Code remains in force.
