Five men were detained by students and local residents at a student residence in the Chanmari area of Kamalapur, Faridpur city, following allegations of homosexuality. Three of them were later taken into police custody, while the other two were released to their families before police arrived. The incident began after allegations were raised against a resident of the student accommodation and other students examined private communications on mobile phones.

According to media reports, Hasan Raj had moved into the student residence around 10 days before the incident. Fellow residents alleged that he had made a same-sex proposition to another student. On Friday night, students detained and questioned Hasan over the allegation. Another young man, identified as Arian and reported to be living at a nearby residence, was also brought there. Students reportedly examined their mobile phones and claimed to have found their involvement in several Facebook groups associated with gay people. Reports further stated that Hasan and Arian were then made to contact other people from the online groups and ask them to come to the residence. These allegations and accounts were reported on the basis of statements provided by residents of the student accommodation.

The following day, three men arrived at the residence and were detained by students and local residents. Media reports identified them as Jihad Hossain, 28, a fourth-year honours student at Government Rajendra College; Babu Khan, 38, a tailor working in the New Market area; and Krishna Mondol, 30, a resident of Sri Angan in Goalchamot. The national emergency service 999 was subsequently contacted. Before police reached the location, Hasan Raj and Arian were reportedly released into the custody of their families after written undertakings were provided. A police team led by Sub-Inspector Mohammad Shahidul Islam of Kotwali Police Station later arrived at the scene and took Jihad Hossain, Babu Khan and Krishna Mondol into police custody and brought them to the police station. Officer-in-Charge Mahmudul Hasan confirmed to the media that police responded after receiving information through the national emergency service 999 and took the three men to the station. He further stated that no written complaint had been filed by any party at that time and that the next legal steps would be determined following investigation.
