Four young men were arrested at the Hajrakhana Balur Mela in Chaugachha, Jashore, after they were accused of presenting themselves as Hijra and performing a dance that was labelled “obscene.” The allegation led to police intervention and, later that night, prison sentences imposed by a mobile court. According to media reports, at around 11:30 pm on 14 September, a police team led by Chaugachha Police Station Sub-Inspectors Mehedi Hasan Maruf and Uttam Kumar Mondol detained the four at the fair.
