Nabin Bangladesh Chinese Factory to Recruit 100 Hijra Individuals to Combat Extortion

Nabin Bangladesh Chinese Factory, located in Keraniganj, Dhaka, has announced an initiative to recruit 100 members of the Hijra and third-gender communities. The decision aims to prevent extortion while creating regular employment opportunities and supporting the economic independence of Hijra individuals. The recruitment announcement, published on the company’s Facebook page on 2 April 2026, was subsequently reported by several Bangladeshi news outlets. Located in the Belna area of Keraniganj, the Chinese factory plans to provide members of the Hijra community with opportunities to enter the formal industrial workforce. According to the announcement, selected employees will receive a fixed monthly salary, accommodation, meals, festival bonuses, and technical training as part of their employment benefits.

According to the recruitment notice, Hijra and third-gender individuals aged between 20 and 35 were eligible to apply for the positions. Each selected employee will receive a monthly salary of BDT 15,000. The daily working schedule will consist of 10 hours, including a one-hour break. Employees will also be entitled to one day off per week, free accommodation, one meal per day, and two festival bonuses annually. In addition, the factory has arranged technical training under the supervision of Chinese engineers to help employees develop professional skills. This arrangement is intended to provide participants not only with a regular source of income but also with practical technical knowledge and experience relevant to industrial employment. The application deadline was set for 8 April 2026, with candidates to be selected through a screening and assessment process.

Abdul Rahman, a sales officer at Nabin Bangladesh Chinese Factory, told the media that the recruitment announcement had received a significant response from members of the Hijra and third-gender communities. According to him, 120 applications had already been submitted following the announcement. The company planned to review the applications and select suitable candidates based on their qualifications and other relevant criteria. The factory presented the initiative as an effort to address extortion-related concerns while creating alternative and sustainable income opportunities for Hijra individuals. The recruitment programme also aims to increase their participation in economic activities and facilitate their inclusion in the industrial workforce through structured employment and professional skill development.

In Bangladesh, members of the Hijra community continue to face limited access to formal employment, leaving many without stable sources of income. Social discrimination, restricted educational opportunities, and a lack of acceptance in professional environments create significant barriers to their economic participation. Against this backdrop, the recruitment initiative announced by Nabin Bangladesh Chinese Factory represents an opportunity to expand employment access for Hijra and gender-diverse individuals in the private industrial sector. The combination of a regular monthly salary, free accommodation, meals, and technical training could help participants establish greater financial stability and enter formal employment. Furthermore, gaining practical experience in a factory environment and receiving training from Chinese engineers may strengthen their professional skills and improve their prospects for future employment in other industrial establishments.
