Transgender Woman Tashnuva Marries at Dhakeshwari National Temple

Bangladeshi transgender woman and television news presenter Tashnuva Anan Shishir married Liton Chandra Biswas in a Hindu religious ceremony at Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka on 10 July 2026. Shishir has been described in reports as an actor and former television news presenter, and as the first transgender news reader in the country.

According to published reports, the couple arrived at the temple in Old Dhaka dressed as bride and groom, presented identity documents, brought witnesses and completed the required forms. Several relatives and witnesses accompanied them. Shishir wore traditional wedding attire, including a bridal crown. Priests then performed the customary Hindu marriage rituals, and the couple left after the ceremony. Temple authorities confirmed that the ceremony took place on 10 July 2026. According to their accounts, the wedding lasted approximately one and a half to two hours, during which the couple completed the religious formalities. A religious offering of BDT 2,000 was reportedly made to the temple.

Photographs and videos of the wedding later circulated on social media, bringing the event to public attention. According to a temple management committee member, the temple keeps copies of national identity cards and does not investigate couples’ personal histories. He said the temple authorities learned about Shishir’s background only later, through Facebook.
