Two Chhatra Dal Leaders Removed from Posts Following Homosexuality Allegations

14 May 2026

Two leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal unit at the Government Unani and Ayurvedic Medical College in Dhaka were removed from their organisational posts following an earlier incident in which they and others were imprisoned and lost their residential hostel seats over allegations of homosexuality. The decision was announced in a press release issued by Dhaka Metropolitan West Chhatra Dal on 14 May 2026. The two leaders were Arian Shah Rabbi and Mohibur Rahman Noyon, both joint conveners of the college unit. Their names had previously emerged in connection with an incident that began on 22 April 2026, after which four students and one outside individual were handed over to police and subsequently sentenced by a mobile court to 15 days’ imprisonment. The college administration also temporarily cancelled the residential hostel seats of the four students.

The original incident began on the night of 22 April, when Shahriar Palak, a student of the 35th batch of the BUMS programme, was detained with an outside individual in a lane near the college mosque and allegations of homosexuality were raised against them. Media reports said that the names of three other students subsequently emerged on the basis of information obtained during questioning, including Mohibur Rahman Noyon and Rabbi Hossain, also known as Arian Shah Rabbi, both students of the 34th batch. On 23 April, the four students and the outside individual were handed over to Kafrul Police Station and a mobile court subsequently sentenced all five to 15 days’ imprisonment. On the same day, following an emergency meeting of the Academic Council, the college authorities temporarily cancelled the residential hostel seats of the four students.

Nearly three weeks later, details of the imprisonment and hostel-seat cancellations were reported by news outlets on 13 and 14 May. On 14 May, Dhaka Metropolitan West Chhatra Dal removed Arian Shah Rabbi and Mohibur Rahman Noyon from their organisational posts. According to The Daily Campus, a notice signed by Dhaka Metropolitan West Chhatra Dal office secretary Md Shahidul Islam cited specific allegations of “breach of organisational discipline” in announcing their removal from the posts. The decision was reported by the media on 15 May 2026.
